We’ve all had the phone calls, the texts and the emails. Scams are everywhere right now.
In July I hosted a Community Anti-Scam Forum with the Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones.
Attendees learnt how to better protect themselves from scams and how the The Albanese Government is committed to making Australians the hardest targets for scammers in the world
Since taking office, the Albanese Government has launched the National Anti-Scam Centre to crack down on scammers and have seen a reduction in scams. I encourage everyone to report scams on www.nasc.gov.au and to Scamwatch to help track trends and protect the community.
We’ve also introduced the Scams Prevention Framework, requiring banks, telcos, and social media companies to take action on scams. Failure to comply could result in penalties of up to $50 million and compensation for victims from the banks.
