Following the budget briefing, Katy and Alicia will answer questions from attendees.
This year’s Budget is delivering for Canberra.
Included in the Budget is $250 million to revitalise the AIS. This funding will restore the AIS to its former glory to ensure our athletes have the best possible facilities in the lead up to the Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics.
We’re backing jobs in new technology with almost $18 million of Federal funding for the first TAFE EV Centre of Excellence at CIT Fyshwick. The EV Centre of Excellence will build on the success of the nation-leading EV Training Hub at CIT and allowing more Canberrans to train for the jobs of the future.
The Government will invest $50 million for Light Rail stage 2B. The Federal Government is working with the ACT Government to deliver light rail to Woden. This important announcement will ensure that Canberrans on the southside will have access to better public transport.
The arts will get much needed funding in this Budget with $4.1 million for the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. Canberra Symphony Orchestra has entertained Canberrans and visitors to our city for nearly 75 years. COVID had a huge impact on the orchestra which has historically received the lowest amount of Commonwealth funding compared to other state orchestras. This announcement will ensure the viability of the orchestra to entertain us all well into the future.
The Budget will also invest $27.1 million to upgrade Canberra’s roads. This funding injection will provide for the duplication of William Hovell Drive, alleviating congestion and ensuring Canberrans get home sooner.
